Sandy's post about trying to explain
the AT to people reminded me of
something I've experienced many times -
most non-hikers have absolutely no
concept of distance. If you tell
someone "I hiked 2000 miles" they'll
smile and say, "Oh that's nice." but
if you say, "I walked for six months."
they'll say, "Oh my God!! How could
you!!!!"
