I have been reading the mail for a while just to see what is happening on the
Trail. I thru hiked in 86 and plan to hike a couple of months starting at
Springer about the 24th.
Being interested about some of the characters, John Newman mentioned Winston
- The Great Appalachian Trail Superhiker or similar variations of greatness
reminded me of my meeting with Winston in 86. Another story. My question -
what ever happened to him?
For those of you starting the Trail in a couple of weeks if you see a 50
something man carring an overloaded green Dana Terraplane with Long Trail and
2000 mile patches say "Hi Old ridgerunner'. I'll probably need a break.
