[at-l] Follow up on my misrouted msg

Sorry for the confusion I caused when I put "Help" as the subject on my
message. I couldn't think of a better subject because I felt like I was
sinking into oblivion!

I'm in a much better frame of mind now. I came back from the "trip from
hell"
and bought a Dana Terraplane internal frame pack which feels wonderful!
Yesterday I returned to the outfitter and bought a Western Mountaineering
down bag, Antelope model, mummy style. I didn't think I could sleep in a
true mummy bag, but I camped out on the living room floor last night in the
bag and got a good night's sleep. I didn't have any problems at all and was
able to turn in the bag ok. They threw in 6 skinny, lightweight aluminum
tent pegs for me, so I think most of my major problems have been solved. The
boots - I don't know! I'll just use the old insoles for now.

In retrospect, it was a good thing this happened to me. I would have
sauntered off to Georgia and discovered very quickly that I was in big
trouble. That's why everyone keeps saying it's so important to test out your
gear before you go. I didn't give it a thought because I've used my gear so
many times, but it was the little changes I made which nearly did me in. I
remember being cold in my sleeping bag at the Gathering in October, and
although that had never happened to me before, it should have served as a
warning to me then.

I also decided to quit weighing every little thing. I'm packing that Dana
and when I have everything inside and ready to go, I'll step on the bathroom
scale! I've been agonizing long enough, and if I can make it to Neel's gap
I'm sure I'll throw out what I don't need (no, not the deodorant; I'll never
give it up; it weighs next to nothing; take anything else!!!!).

I'm going to miss the AT-L and the ATML so much. You have instructed,
entertained, enlightened, and cared, and I love you all. See ya out there!

Marty (Gypsy)(JipC)
p.s. I drink any kind of beer!
