[at-l] Knees :(

I know where you're coming from Tim, I blew my knee out playing
football, tearing my ACL, MCL, and medial meniscus in my left knee.
This happened in the Fall of 92. I did 9 months of pre-op
rehabilitation before having the surgery on June 4, 1993. I then did 11
more months of rehab until the Trail called me forth. I started my
first section hike on May 17, 1994 at Springer and arrived at Harper's
Ferry on Aug 1. Maybe I was really lucky to have had a great doc do my
knee, maybe it helped that I was young (20), but I think the key was all
the rehab that I did. I'm not a doc, but from my own experience I'd
suggest that you dedicate yourself to rebuilding the support muscles in
your leg. I also would recommend using a walking stick (or two), it
took me quite a while to get used to having them in my hands, but the
assistance they lend on steep downhills is invaluable.
