I am hoping that some of you can answer a couple of questions and maybe offer
up some advice.
On the subject of TENTS: My hiking partner Reg and I have been using EMS's
smallest tent. . .I forget the name, but it weighs in at just under 4 lbs.
This size is just right for the two of us sans gear. (Well. . .sleeping like
sardines). The tent is without a vestibule. Within the last month I
purchased a Sierra Designs Meteor Light. ..fits us both with room for gear.
With our hike just five weeks away gear nervousness is taking hold. My
question is...is it necessary to have a tent which holds your gear??? I was
worried about the possibility of a rotten person or maybe Bigfoot pilfering
our packs during the night. Is this a legitimate concern??? What about the
lack of a vestibule??? I have to admit, the Meteor Light is a sweet tent (we
can sit up in it!!!) and we won't quibble about "you are taking up more
space than I am". But if we don't really need to worry about packs being
stolen. . . .or the lack of a vestibule. . .I just might return the tent, and
stick with the small one. Any comments???
And on the subject of FAUNA AND FOOD: is it ever possible (or advisable) to
keep your food in the tent with you rather than bear-bagging?? Or should one
bear-bag food every night????
Thanks ever so much,
Jenn
