[at-l] Socks

Could I get a little chatter on hiking socks? I bought Sundowners couple of
weeks ago and only after wearing them several times did I notice the tight
spot (on the rt. side of rt foot behind little piggy). I was wearing
Thorlo's (seemed to be one of the most popular). Anyway, I am looking for
thinner socks that will still cushion some of the pounding. The salesguy at
Erewhon's in Chicago recommended Smartwool (won 1996 Backpacker Best
Choice). He also said I should not wear a liner with these. IMO the
polypro liner doesn't add any noticible thickness and is good insurance
against blisters. Any thoughts, comments or suggestions would be
appreciated (not to mention little piggy may not have to cry wee wee
wee...). If this has been covered here or other online/print gear reviews
please give direction.
