Better yet, why don't we all just carry (no better yet, have an
animal carry) a generator, a microwave, a complete unix workstation,
and maybe even a small refrigerator. Not to slam other people's
motives, but it seems to me that most of us hike the Trail to get away
from the trouble w/ modern society. How can you escape it, but at the
same time it along? Yes, I know this is hipocritical b/c of the tech.
involved in developing hiking gear, but that tech. is to minimize
impact, not to bring modernity w/ us into the woods. I know this isn't
what some people want to hear, but it is only an opinion of mine. The
only electronics that I can see have a real use is a cell phone for
emergency use, and even this is pushing it, it is a bad security
blanket. We must remember that Trail is all about SELF-reliance, and
technology simply hinders this idea.
