Rei, and other climbing magizines, sell this is all different colors and
sizes (millimeter widths from 2~10).  The thicker the cord the stronger
it is.  4mm should do in most cases. (unless you need to lower yourself
down a mtn.!)  Also, You can order it by the foot.

I don't like the GI version.  It's too thick and tends to absorb water.
