'two of a kind' in 92 hiked with their wives driving support in a camper.
they were able to do BIG miles.

i remember passing some section hikers in MA who did the key exchange
thing.  they were doing about 150 miles or so that way.  they'd usually
have lunch when they met on the trail, exchange the car key, and be off
again.  they alternated who was going to go northbound and who south each day.

'chad leonard north' and 'squirrel' used their vw bus in much the same
manner from nj to vt in 92 to make up all the time they spent partying.

i don't know of anyone who has through hiked the whole trail in this
manner, but i'm sure it's been done.
