[at-l] re: Springer to Fontana Dam in 3 weeks?

i think three weeks would be quite easily doable.

in 92 i started too fast from amicalola (tray mtn on the 5th night), got
tendonitis, slowed down to mend, and still made it to the fontana hilton in
14 days (avg of 12.2 mpd). took a day off there, and was healthy and in
high spirits entering the smokies.

next time i do the trail i'd like to take 20 days to get to fontana - for
me that will require PLANNING sub-10 mile days. 22 days would be an
average of 7.7 mpd. if you're used to 10-12 mile day weekend trips, my
guess is it's a perfectly reasonable goal.
