If you filter your water from your water carrier instead of the water source, the silt will settle and the filter will become clogged less frequently. My Katadin filter hose fit right into my folding water carrier. When someone used my filter and filtered right out of the creek the filter needed to cleaned the next time I needed it. Gail/Gutsy
