Re: [AT-L] RE: [AT-L] Sweetwater Guardian vs. Pur Hiker

We used a Sweetwater Guardian on our thru-hke in '95. Worked quite well -
very easy to pump and water tasted great. Went thru about 3 or 4
cartridges - sometimes I got over zealous in cleaning it, which forced me to
switch it out a bit earlier than I had planned. How often you need to clean
it depends on your water source (amount of silt, etc.) . I used the silt
stopper for a while, but I was constantly backflushing it and that got
annoying after a while, so I gave up on it. Don't know about the PurHiker -
I know a lot of people had a Pur Filter, but there are a number of models
and I know some people liked them and some hated them. I did notice that
some of the Pur models were hell to pump.
