RE: Standing Indian Loop

This 25.4 mile loop trail in the Nantahala National Forest of North Carolina
is mostly on the A.T. This is possible because the A.T. in foolowing the
mountain crest nearly doubles back on itself. The section between Deep Gap
(near Standing Indian Mountain) and the Standing Indian Campground is bridged
by the very pleasant 3.7 mile long Kimsey Creek Trail. The hike is strenuous
with a climb so steep up Albert Mountain that it is hard not to laugh when
you first see the short, steep pitch. All in all it is a great hike though
and one of the best loops available along the Appalachian Trail.
