I was thinking about getting my 8 yr old daughter a ceramic filter that
I saw in a backpack mag and is advertised in Campmoor for $19.95. She
would only use it a couple times a year and not really be filtering
silt. Seemed like it would fit the purpose.  Has anyone ever seen a real
one or knows whether they would serve the above purpose (not heavy duty
any comments would be appreciated.  We also boil and use potable aqua
so we're familiar with that and other filters, just trying to create a
future backpacker for my old age.
