I'll second the Sony SW-10. I've carried one for about 2 years now. This
radio also gets great battery life. Over 40 hours with standard
batteries, many more with alkalines, and may run for ever on lithiums.
The number of shortwave stations in incredible. Their broadcast are
often aimed at those with no other access to news (sounds like a
