i don't have any practical experience with the zip stove, but researched them
because they sound like such a great idea for the AT.  the pros are not
carrying fuel except for maybe a baggie of dry stuff and it's low weight.
 the cons (from what people say) are the excessive smoke and having to add
twigs and such often to keep the heat high.  i'd love to experiment with one
some day but will probably go with a non-zip for the trip.
