I am also a 40 year old female who is just starting to get back into
backpacking after being tied down with kids for many years. I backpacked some
when I was younger and have continued to day hike with the kids. I am on the
east coast and have mostly hiked and packed here (Vermont and the
Adirondacks.)
I am thinking of doing the part of the Long Trail (in VT) that is north of
the AT this year.
