AT thruhikers in the Smokies..re: gov't shutdown

I think it was David who asked about the effect of another government shutdown
on AT thruhikers throught the Smokies.  I talked to Bob Miller who handles PR
for GRSM (GSMNP).  He does not think there should be any chance of shutting out
thruhikers for that reason, even if it does come about.  He did mention that
that would mean no rangers in the backcountry.  They always respond to
emergency situations, however.   John Newman
