I'm new to the list and am currently planning a '96 S to N thru-hike, 
beginning in early May.  After reading everything I can get my hands on, 
the one issue that seems to be the most controversial and confusing is 
rain gear.  

In the process of gathering equipment, I don't know whether to go with 
Gore-tex, another waterproof material, or just nothing at all.  I would 
greatly appreciate any comments, opinions, or suggestions regarding rain 
wear, gaiters, waterproof/Gore-tex boots, etc.
