Well Alpen Rose out spent the enviromentalist and won the right to build the 
track.  To add insult to injury they asked for a 3.2 million dollar grant from the 
state to build the track.  So far no money has been forthcoming from the state 
(the state budget stunk las year and is not in better shape this year).  there has 
been a fair amount of public outrage over the trackandit may not be built until 
sometime later.

The more immediate threat to the AT are plans to build one, maybe two power 
transmission lines across the AT. Steve Landis may have a better link, but look
