You don't have copper pipes anywhere.  The fixtures are brass and your pipes are either pvc, poly, or galvinized steel.  Try vinager.  If it is on the bottom plug the tub and pour some in.  If it is on the side wet a washcloth and lay it on the spot.  You might be able to buy a product called rid-o-rust at lowes.  It is not MSR or that type of product it just cleans everything.  Try not to breath the fumes.  If all else fails give Butros Butros Gahli a rag and promise him veggie sandwiches and ice water with that lemon shit in it.  :>))

But I confess, I love the social aspect of the AT. The people I met along the way were the best.
