  Name:  Dick Calkins

  Trail Name:  Longhaul

  Where you live:  Herndon, Virginia

  Occupation:  Retired (after 35 years with the World Bank), but back again as a consultant after taking most of a year off to hike the AT.

  Marital Status:  Married (to "She-who-knows-me-best-but-still-loves-me")  19 years last week.  

  Family:  Older son, Rich, out of the house and living in Atlanta (My ride to Springer!), Laura (15), Mathew (12), and Adam 10) still at home.  Adam is about to "graduate" from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts; Mathew is a Star rank Scout; Laura is in a Venture Crew, so Scouting keeps the whole family busy.

  Age:  18  (ahem...ok, it's more like, how does an 18 year old MIND end up trapped in a 48 year old BODY???)  (Ahem....ok, so maybe it's more like a 61 year old body.  Math weren't never my best subject.)

  Favorite Trail:  AT

  Favorite AT Section:  the Presidentials

  Other than the AT, the trail you most want to hike:  Not sure.  Having just finished my AT through-hike, I'm gonna have to think on that awhile.  

  Trails completely hiked:  AT 2005

  Trails you want to complete:  AT again in five years time; and maybe, MAYBE, the PCT.  

  Hiking topics you know a bit about:  knee replacement surgery....  

  Other hobbies, interests:  volunteer EMT with local Rescue Squad;  volunteer with Shenandoah Mountain Rescue Group, volunteer with a PATC trail crew (the Shenandoah Bartenders - we do a lot of water bar work!), plus Scouts, of course, and genealogy, and archeology, and oh about 100 other things that are on my life list that I haven't gotten to yet, but I WILL.
