Maybe a better question is when NOT to hike a particular state. No Maine 
in blackfly season (June). No Pennsylvania in drought season (July). And 
no Georgia in March (brrrr). But it would be rough to chose between 
Spring and Fall for many of the states.

May and September are great months - why didn't He make more of them? At 
least February is short.
