April, due to high water from snowmelt. (I've wrote two emails about Maine  
tonight, and both have 'snowmelt' in them...) *If* we don't have a late wet  
winter, I think this section in early May would be grand. You'll get wet and  
cold, but the trees will be budding, the trillium will be out, and you'll  have 
birds and critters galore for company weeks before the MATC releases  the 
blackfly crop. Hiking Maine in May is a delight, you won't regret it.
