Thanks for shedding light on that subject!
So the loops are for ice axes...another mystery solved (mental note: don't
cut off the ice axe loops because I really like this pack and want to use it
on the PCT some day).
I've heard of self arrest but have never hiked anywhere where ice axes were
needed.  My personal AT version of self arrest involves a lawn chair and a
six pack...where are the loops for that stuff on my pack???
