[at-l] mystery loops

Okay--this is a basic (and probably incredibly silly) question:
Have you ever spend years and years living in the same apartment only to
discover one day that you have a mysterious light switch with no apparent
function? I've just had a similar experience with my pack. There are two
little loops on the bottom of the pack--a lot of packs have them but I've
never needed to use them and haven't really put too much thought into what
they were for or how they're used. But now I have a sudden BURNING NEED TO
KNOW WHAT THE HECK THOSE LITTLE LOOPS ARE FOR!?!? There are no straps or
buckles connecting to them--they're just loops hanging out on their own.
Totally illogical but they show the small promise of being highly
functional. I sense I should have learned about these loops years ago but,
somewhere along the line, I missed out on the loop lecture in the packs 101
class.
Someone please help me out here...this is driving me nuts!
