[at-l] Why do people repeat the same behavior, and expect different resul...

Not too long ago I was a newbie to backpacking and this forum provided some very good advice and some great friends. It also let me know about Rucks and great suggestion on how to get the best gear at the best prices.

New to this list, I fast found out who were the ones to ask questions of and the ones who I just delete prior to reading their post.

I think this list offers the best of a forum and also the worst, luckily for this list the best out weighs the worst by far.

Some are passionate about their opinion of the AT and how a person has to hike, IMHO I could care less what someone thinks about how I hike, where I hike or what I carry. If you know me you know that I will ask questions about peoples opinions and I take them as opinion and try to gain knowlege through other peoples suggestions. But I am also a free thinker, I try to varify statements, fact and opinions and come to a resolution on my own. I am an absolute firm believer in Hike YOUR OWN Hike - because in the end no one is going to carry your pack for you, no one is going to relive your memories of a great/challenging trail experience and for pete's sake it is backpacking that we all enjoy, not debating like we are negociating world peace....
I think if someone is getting so frustrated on this list that they have to blast a fellow poster they should be put THEMSELVES in time out.... by that I mean, before they spray flame someone... go out an backpack for a week and if it is still bothering them then the person needs to realize that spending hours in front of the computer debating backpacking is their passion and thier hobby and that they are using our passion of backpacking is a vehicle to spur on a heated and sometimes senseless and distructive debate.

It is ok to be passionate, but when you have made your point, and hopefully politely and respectful to those who it is directed and those who read, MOVE ON!

Just my opinion, and that is exactly what it is... an opinion...

Because I use the delete key for numerous addresses, I'm not sure to whom you
are referring. I would bet that none of them will ever be seen at a Ruck or
Gathering though.
