It was actually here on this list that I first read (Woodelf's?) 
suggestion to use a dab of your alcohol hand gel on a corner to get it 
going. I tried it, it worked. It was a long time ago I read that.

An esbit is a useful item in a personal first aid kit, along with 
spare matches. While I've run out of alcohol before, then remembered 
the tab for a hot meal, I always also had the assurance I could start 
a fire in an emergency.
