[at-l] Esbit, was at-l] Da stove question again---~~~

Marsha,

>> I will debate....with anyone....anywhere.

***OK. Felix in Missoula Montana or me in Maui. Your call.

>> I swear by esbit. Lightweight, CHEAP and brings 8 oz to boil in 8 mins.

***Ditto alcohol 'cept 2 cups in 5+15 on 20 ml.

>> I've never had a problem

***me neither w/ alcohol.

>>and I've used it in my tent.

***never will..too chicken.

>>I've used it in the dark. I've used it in the rain. I've used it on
>>mountaintops.

***Have you used it with green eggs and ham asked Sam I am? :)

>>You blow out the tab when you're done or you let the sucker burn until it
>> extinguishes into a tiny ash. Can't beat it---sorry!!!

***Why on earth would you ever want to beat an esbit tab? Maybe it's just
me but I think you have nothing to apologize for.

***and chemically too. One of the attractive things about alcohol and
alcohol stoves is that it burns relatively clean with low-tech non-fossil
renewable fuel that's made from corn and the leftovers recycle into farm
animal feed and budweiser in aluminun cans which is consumed with
aformentioned grilled farm animals and the beer cans become stoves. How
cool is that! Very fluid and circular and Esbit tabs are hard and
squarish. Coincidence? I think not.

Seriously, there are some engineer types I have hiked with that have run
very extensive and anal comparison tests with the esbit vs. alcohol stoves
of every type and configuration and swear the esbit tabs are the clear
winner in the weight/btu/cost/etc catagories. Even so, I've used them and
just don't like them but will take you up on your offer to debate the
issue. I choose Maui. Please say your going to be at the SoRuck.
