According to MacKaye's "The Appalachian Trail - A Project in Regional
Planning" that was the original proposal. There was no mention of
Oglethorp. I read once who proposed later that ending for the trail but
MacKaye's idea was to go from the highest mountain in the NE to the highest
mountain in the SE. So I guess the answer would be October 1921.
