Sloetoe noted a few days ago: "But as far as breakfasts go, I noticed
OB alllll alone on Saturday morning, and MissJ alllll alone on Sunday
morning. Having pancaked a Ruck or two myself, may I suggest that
someone take the easily sectionable meat activity (bacon, links,
patties, "etc.") off of OB's and MissJ's plates, and let them
concentrate on what they do best? "
Having been there for a few Saturday breakfasts, I have never found
myself terribly all alone. The coffee makers, egg eaters, curious and
Real Cooks show up and offer and take responsibility awfully fast.
Folks will bring plates and plastic ware, cups, juice, Danish and
other odds and ends. Conversation quickly follows. Friendships and
angry spouses sometime rear their heads. (You have to have been at
the SoRUCK 1.0 to know about that one.) I usually find that someone
figures out that I know nothing about cooking, and steps in to repair
the disaster in progress. On another note, we sometimes have to run
folks out of the kitchen as we tend toward too many cooks.
Around mid December we will hear a few messages seeking volunteers,
food and donations of food and supplies. I hope we will have more
kitchen gear available this year. Griddle space comes at a premium in
this event. We may need a bullhorn to aid the Calling of the Hikers,
the annual wake up call of each Saturday's Blueberry pancake
breakfast. And we will be crushed with food and amazed at how little
refrigerator space we have for all of the stuff.
