the non-bigot-sounding name these days is "Jaws harp"...But, what was the sound 
being played? Can you give more detail? Could it have been a cuckoo? (I have 
a 'Jews harp', which is what I call it, too, in my hand right now and can't 
seem to make a sound I'd relate to a bird)
