[at-l] Another off topic point of view -



After participating in both on and off topic discussions on this list, I
realize that both are important to AT people. Whether they coexist on one
list or are split into two lists is not important to me, although I suspect
the split won't work.

Obviously the on-topic discussion if for the benefit of the hiking community
in general. The off-topic discussion is that of an active community with a
lot in common and some sore points of disagreement. Such disagreements are
normal, even among good friends as long as we agree to disagree. Many hikers
are loners, with few friends outside of other hikers. These off-topic
discussions are particularly important to them. What is never called for is
personal attacks, which fortunately have been missing from the Katrina
discussion.
