[at-l] Cheney Lackey vs. Nat'l. Parks (from LA Times)

Bill asks an interesting question, is there an answer? Unfortunately not because
today's politics is mano a mano, take no prisoners and heaven forbid that you admit
that you have mad an error.

First about my politics. There are no liberals left. That great conservative president
Richard Nixon was much more liberal than most of the elected Democrats in the
United Stares. W ain't a conservative, most of my true conservative friends like him
even less than I do. He does pander to the lowest common denominator which
would appear to be the lower to lower middle class religious fundamentalist. I may
be wrong about that point, but he sure doesn't relate to me. He is sort of pro-
business, but a friend of mine, who is a VP in a fortune 500 company, has pointed
out to me how he is anti-business.

So is Bush anti-environment? I don't think that he is neither. He just sees resource
that need to be exploited. The economy cannot stop growing or the consequences
will be catastrophic for the United States. I fear that in 30 yrs the Niger economy will
look good to the American people. Bush and his people have set course on one
solution and the Democrats, liberal etc have not offered a viable alternative. Both
sides are just preaching to the choir (Something that happens on this list way too
often).

So instead of zinging each other and calling each other names we need to discuss
alternative solutions to the various problems facing us as a country. Unfortunately
the most difficult problem we are all facing is NIMBYism.

So my political believes? I am a progressive, no party. The one politician that I
admire the most was Berry Goldwater, a ,man who told the truth and lost an election,
a man who was an enviromentalist but also a conservative. Remember you may
disagree with someone and their believes, but there is common ground for
discussion. Instead of acting like politicians act like human beings and try to work for
consensus which means compromise.
