It didn't hurt.  The weather was nice.
What's 8 miles out of 2160?

On the other hand, I started from the campground,
somewhat uphill from the park headquarters.

It amuses me that anyone would think for more than
a few seconds about an 8-mile hike as a warmup to
a 2160 thru-hike.
