[at-l] Wilderness is only part of it

In the same ATC document that RnR often refers to,
we find that the following is one of several official
missions of the trail:

"Opportunities to experience the cultural, historical, and
pastoral elements of the surrounding countryside."

As an example, I offer this photo off the trailway, some-
where in southern Virginia, late May of 1990:

Here's what I see:

1. This is not wilderness.

2. For me, this is not "disconnectedness."
It is, rather, connectedness -- with the
sort of life that urban folks don't get to
see, all that much.

3. Item 2 (IMO) is consistent with what
Benton MacKaye wanted in his trail.

In other words? What I see here is an
affirmation of what's good, rather than a
rejection of what's bad in the world.
