[at-l] "Pro-cell phone Sloetoe..."

It would seem from the quote below, taken directly from the atc site
http://www.appalachiantrail.org/site/c.jkLXJ8MQKtH/b.851243/k.8660/Threats_to_the_Experience.htm
that they are not quite as worried about cells as some would have you believe.

"Telecom Towers. As wireless communication booms, the Appalachian high ground becomes a prime site for antennas. But good communications and good views need not exclude each other, so ATC works with industry, communities, and local trail clubs to minimize the scenic impact of towers."

This is neither meant to be pro- or anti-cell. Just an observation. I also was unable to find anything in reference to "disconnectedness" on the trail on the website. I also couldn't find the guidelines. Where are these items on the site. I'd really like to read them.

I don't know why I even bother at this point but these are your
*OPINIONS*.
*** Which is just your way of ignoring how most of what the Trail
is based on backs what Weary and myself are saying. Jim O is saying it too,
but he's too intimidated by the HYOH guard to relate it in proper Trail terms.

Your reasoning very obviously moves from the specific terms we
discussed about the Trail's designed wilderness ethic into the void-of-meaning
discussion of "opinions". That is just another case of talking about talking about
the Trail's wildness purpose instead of addressing the points. That is moving
from effective details to void wording. The movement of which is away from
productive discussion involving firm Trail facts. Sorry I made you "bother".

If anything these threads have evidenced your
inflexibility and myopic view.

*** This seems like an obvious attempt to pose genuine Trail
concern as extreme. Actually, if you look how cell phone promoters ignore genuine
Trail background it becomes more apparent where the 'inflexibility' lies.

I have serious trail concerns as do
many other people on this list.
*** Some of my best friends are Trail advocates. I'll gamble your
"serious Trail concerns" involve allowing cell phone proliferation and the
ensuing changes to the Trail.

Frankly I would rather start
discussion of some other topic but your stance that "you have a cell
phone with you on the trail that no other person knows about or ever
sees therefore you are the AT's enemy" is so distorted and without
logic that I am overwhelmed with the feeling to attempt to enlighten
you. But it's just not working.

*** Greg, if you want to enlighten me try involving some Trail
history, its designed purpose as evidenced in its writings and ATC's actions,
and dealing with the direct points about how cell phones impact the Trail's
state of wildness.

You can't just ignore everything we've said and then claim we need
enlightening.

Oh well. I tried.

Greg

*** The Trail is really having a problem impressing its
wilderness purpose on the public and its users.

Greg, what do you think about the ATC AT Guideline stating
"disconnectedness" as one of the Trail's goals?
