Well, the women's room didn't have any hot water, and the men's room 
did. Makes sense to me.
As I recall the story, the lady was entirely nonplused.

young blond Canadian woman taking a sponge bath.  She was completely 
naked.  All her friends laughed when I came out in a hurry.
