Not really. The public even kicked in several hundred thousand
dollars for the Babcock Ranch in donations. The developers still got it, even
though the public was strongly for preservation.
It doesn't take a genius to figure out the Bush-era land grabbers
had this worked out from the start and our hugely funded government somehow just
couldn't come up with the money to save it from destruction.
They raped Babcock right in front of the children who chipped in
for preservation. Welcome to the Bush era.
The developer, Syd Kitson, commented upon seeing Babcock Ranch
from the air (it is mostly wild tracts of semi-tropical jungle) "it is so
pristine"...
