Starting a Thru -- [Was: Re: [at-l] A Clear Choice for RnR]

The ATC has some "stats" from 2000 to the present, with the above numbers 
near the mark for 2000.  The number of thru-hikers and 2000-milers which include 
section hikers completing the trek have been going downhill since.

Some like to credit Walk in the Woods for the high numbers in 2000, I'm more 
inclined to think it was the millenium but perhaps a bit of both.
