Nice report, that was a fun read. In the 30-odd years
I've known the trail, I've seen a lot of changes.

I wish they weren't in such an all-fired hurry to kill
the roadwalks. Some are (were) downright pleasant,
and some were replaced by classic PUDs (eg
Pond Mtn.) On one level I understand why this "must"
be done... and on another, it feels like a loss.
Few in 2005 will know what the AT was like in 1990,
much less 1979.

Often I think the AT was designed by masochists.

The main question is why I'm still so attracted to it
after all these years.
