But don't ya know, that's what makes this whole conversation so...difficult.

Most everyone involved claims to want other people to do whatever they wish and
get the most out of their hikes--their hikes.  But if you tell someone
something using just one more word than necessary, it will sound as if you are
placing some value on what you are saying that somehow extends beyond your own
life and experience.  Then it becomes a value to be lived up to--a goal of some
sort that the speaker really didn't mean but will feel a need to defend.

As far as I'm concerned, the whole subject is a matter of personal opinion so
it would be reeeely haaard to call into question the "legitimacy" of anyone's
beliefs about it.

What color socks should I wear?
