"just an acknowledgement that a pretty small cross-section of
the various ethnic/cultural/class groups in the US are found on our
trails."
------------------
A very important thing to acknowledge, too. Our's is a National Trail, and is
mostly important to only a particular part of that nation. Demographics say
that 'particular part' is becoming smaller each day. In the years to come, when
the AT will face harder challenges than any of us can possibly imagine, what
will the majority feel about something that is only important to a small
minority? It behooves us to reach out to non-traditional trail users, so that when
the time comes they too will have a stake in preserving the AT.
