Oh Yeah!  The environment (ours at least) will be ruined if there is a  
meteor hit or if there is some catastrophe that ends human life.  It won't  just be 
humans that are affected.  All mammals will get it.  However,  after hundreds 
of thousands of years passing life will once again surface and  living things 
will evolve.  That's life!
