I don't.

I fill it about 1/4 full, add a stiff shot of bleach, cap it, shake the bleach 
solution around, loosen the cap, squeeze some bleach water out to disinfest 
the cap threads, etc, and set it upright with the lose cap in a cool dark 
spot.

Quick rinse and refill and it is ready to go.

BTW -- so far I have not knocked it over and split the bleach water through 
the lose cap, but that could be a downside.
