Waterfall,

?... I have this friend. ... She really hates her job and is planning to
resign ... she heard ... she might get laid off ... but ... doesn't know
(when). (S)he's wondering if she should just wait it out (to) get
unemployment, or if she should ... hand in the resignation letter this week
... If she stays at the job much longer ... she'll end up in ... the loony
bin ...?
You solicit, ?Any suggestions/advice??
First, she should confirm she qualifies for unemployment.
Second, she needs to determine what she will be required to do, to continue
drawing unemployment benefits. E.g., some places would require her to
actively seek re-employment, inhibiting her hiking and Trail Days plans.
Third, she may be able to get it all. Why don?t you (er, why doesn?t she)
submit her application for vacation / leave to take off for hiking and Trail
Days? Her employer may just come to see her as an ideal candidate for
lay-off.
Regardless what happens, your friend (yeah, right, hah, hah, hah) should be
able to extend her sanity anticipating her hiking and Trail Days fun. At
worst, she maintains her sanity and resigns after her therapy sessions have
concluded.
