[at-l] Stile trivia...

FWIIW

The ATC's _Appalachian Trail; Design, Construction and Maintenance_ 2ed list
states on page 130, "Four type stiles are worth discussing here: step stile,
fence-ladder stiles, the British standard stile, and dodgeways." On page 131
the last sentence of the paragraph on "dodgeways" is "Farmers may worry about
this stile."

So, I assume that a dodgeway is a stile, for our purposes -- Webster
notwithstanding.

Most dictionary definitions of 'stile' stipulate that they involve 'steps'
however stile is also part of the word turnstile which allows one to pass
through rather than over a fence. I would feel safe including a ramp in the
definition of 'stile'.
