me and 50 of my new friends had breakfast with her at the convention. You
need to reread her book. She disagreed with a lot of bush policies. Hence the
name of her book. It's my party to. She is against the stand taken on oil
drilling.
Within any political Party there are many varying points of view. CTW in
"Its My Party Too" gives a clear view of what Republicans believe and the
differences between her "Moderate" points of view and what she (and others) call
the "Neo-Con" point of view. Certainly her frustration with those surrounding
President Bush (43) was expressed, but she also pointed out that the
criticisms against his environmental policies were exaggerated and beyond what the
facts bear out.
We who love the out-of-doors have a narrow focus that wants more and more
money for our interests. When a whole lot is proposed and that amount is
slashed it is often argued that the President cut the amount of money to
environment purposes, whereas the truth is that an increase was funded but not to the
extent hoped for. Acknowledgment of the increase (even if not what was hoped
for) puts things in a true perspective.
Those who advocate for their "baby" whether environment, education, labor,
or natural resources, will never be satisfied because the practice has been to
ask for the moon and be satisfied with whatever increase in funding is
available. The negotiation of budget items can be addressed by everyone by
writing to their representatives or by supporting organizations that advocate for
their special interests. The American Hiking Society advocates for the
interests of the Hiking Community and is effective at targeting those interests.
The AHS gives guidance to its members regarding the issues that are presently
pertinent, the addresses of those who can influence legislation and the
timeline of response that enhances chances of impact.
Within the Political Parties there are many points of view. This is
necessary or we would need a Parliamentary Government where small splinter or single
focus parties would have to band together to form a government. Which Party
is the right party? That is up to each individual to decide.
Hiking gets me to thinking.
