I've been using a frameless rucksack for four or five years now. I
have one of the original GoLite breeze packs. The shoulder straps are
trying to detach from the sack by now, and I admired someone else's
Gossamer pack last year and thought I'd try one.

Based on my experience with the GoLite pack, I know that I really need
a sternum strap and that a hip belt is useful but does not need to be
padded at all. I modified my GoLite to use a home-made ultralight
fanny pack as a hipbelt.

I use the provided pads on the shoulder strap, but not on the hipbelt.
I ordered the G5 with a sternum strap, but it was WAY too low for
someone with breasts so I moved it up myself. I could have moved it
farther, but I don't really want to take it apart and do it again. It
was a huge improvement in any case.
