With all the talk of the unreliability of thermometers I have decided to  
gauge the temps this way:

A bit nippy/just keep movin
More chilly, let's put the vest on
cold/time to think about puttin a coat on
cold & windy/ time to definitely get the coat on with the hood up
cold,windy,rainy/ ok now it's time for the raingear with all above
(anybody by this time would look slightly overweight. I'll probably look  
like the Michelin tire guy or Pillsbury Dough Boy)
snow: time to pitch camp and make snowmen or have snowball fights(hey I'm  
out here to have fun)
snow with sleet and wind: time to hunker down in tent and wait for  
Spring...wait a minute it is Spring. What are the Rhododendrons saying? I'm  heading 
for the nearest B&B with a fireplace in my room. I'm no  martyr.
